Minimum Standards:

Some previous hands-on experience of working as a care assistant is preferable but not essential, whilst the special qualities mentioned above are considered to be very important! You will need to be well-presented, conscientious, a skilled communicator when speaking or writing, capable with numbers and comfortable when using a computer. 

NVQ Level 2 qualification or working towards this qualification is desirable. A friendly, approachable, caring and helpful nature is essential.

Responsibility & Duties:

1 To provide all personal care and attention for each resident and to follow the activities of daily living in accordance with the planned care.

2 To ensure residents physical and social needs, comfort and dignity are met

3 To allow residents freedom of choice and abide by the policies and procedures of Sycamore Lodge

4. To assist the senior carer in the performance of their duties as requested.

5 To maintain confidentiality at all times

6 To encourage and assist residents to participate in leisure pursuits

7 To report any changes in residents physical or mental condition to the senior carer or management and maintain records at all times

8 To cover colleagues duties in times of sickness and holidays

9 To abide by the Homes security precautions at all times

10 To undertake induction training and participate in Skills for Care and all Mandatory training and any other which may be required by Law or Company Standards

11 To comply with regulations in respect of Health and Safety, COSHH, Environmental Health, Fire procedures etc and abide by the Company's Health and Safety Policy

12 To undertake cleaning duties as directed, replenish stocks of disposable items and exercise cost control at all times.

13 To ensure residents clothing and toiletries are adequate, named and ensure deficiencies are reported to the Manager

14 To protect residents personal belongings

15 To participate in the assessment and evaluation of residents care, ensuring that the resident remains as independent as possible and is included in the plan of care

16 To promote the good name of the Home at all times

17 To abide by the homes quality policies and procedures and to report any non-conformances in the correct manner

18 To participate in marketing activities/functions as requested

19 To answer outside telephone calls politely and relay messages efficiently

20 To co-operate and maintain good working relationships with all staff

21 To attend at least 3 staff meetings per year as a minimum and any other meetings as required by the Manager

22 To be courteous and polite at all times to develop good relationships with residents, visitors and other professionals both inside and outside of the home

23 To notify the Manager/person in charge of the shift of sickness and date of return to work

24 To report promptly all complaints however minor to the Management

25 To work in a person centred way, ensuring the resident is at the centre of their care

26 To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably requested, in order to maintain the smooth running of the home and to protect the residents living here

Description:

To undertake all duties in relation to the well being of the residents, by delivering the highest standards of care, in a professional manner. To provide induction and supervision to the care staff and to promote effective liaison between the management and care staff.

Minimum Standards:

Experience of working as a senior carer in a previous role is desirable, however specific training will be provided to the right candidate. Medication training is essential and will need to be completed prior to taking up the position, if you do not have this already. NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualified however must be willing to work towards Level 3 award, once in the role. Excellent sickness record and must be reliable.

Good communication and interpersonal skills, friendly, approachable, caring and helpful nature. Able to support, motivate and direct staff.

32 To be aware of areas of non-compliance in practice and report these to the Manager with a view to developing appropriate training programmes

33 To work with the management in communicating information to the care team regarding any changes in policies and procedures

34 To participate in the induction of new care staff to ensure understanding of all Companies Quality Procedures and Policies and ensure that they are adhered to by all care staff and non-conformances in the correct manner

35 To ensure monthly updates on Risk Assessments. E.g. bed rails, wheelchairs and fire are completed and any changes are recorded and reported to the appropriate person.

36 To ensure that weekly tests on Fire Alarm Systems are completed and any findings are recorded and reported to the Health and Safety Representative.

37 To ensure that all monthly B/P’s, Pulse and Weights are recorded for all Residents and any concerns are reported to the appropriate person.

38 To ensure residents medication is ordered, administered and recorded correctly, ensuring that independence and privacy is maintained at all times.

39 To liaise with other professionals who may be involved with the residents care needs i.e., District Nurses, Doctors, Social Workers and Occupational Health etc and record any outcomes changes in the care plan promptly, ensuring that all information is passed on to all staff.

40 To ensure that all information is passed on at change of shifts, to ensure continuity of care.

41 To abide by the Home’s security precautions at all times
